My beautiful bff Abigail Marguerite is a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a very talented girl. This semester, she created self-contradicting home decor (for example, a Peeping Tom curtain). She explains that this project is "meant to elicit slightly humorous yet uncomfortable notions from homeowners in an effort to poke fun at the importance we take in the possessions we surround ourselves with." In particular, I love her dining set.
From a distance, she created a functional, attractive dining set. Up close, I lose my appetite. The subtlety of the piece makes the contrasting gross out reaction to the imagery that much stronger. She raises questions about how we make our choices in establishing a home and the effect of cultural conventions on those decisions.
The rest of the photos of this project can are on her blog. While you're there, help her generate content for her next piece.
